Businesses and communities recognizing those cross-cutting skillsets will realize reduced costs for training. “In Northwest Ohio, businesses are able to recruit workers that have a variety of skillsets that already meet their needs, so training becomes much less complex,” said Kim Hill of HWA Analytics, the conductor of the study. Hill noted that automotive electrification has glamorized the industry because the younger workforce views the sector as more high-tech than yesterday. In addition, the EV industry pays 18% more than comparable jobs in other sectors.
How the RGP helps your business
The Regional Growth Partnership supports companies looking to transition some of their operations to EV in several ways. First, if the company is adding a new location, a new investment, or hiring additional workers, the RGP would assist with traditional economic development services such as helping find a site or building with appropriate utilities and infrastructure; curate a customized incentive package consisting of federal, state, and local programs which could include low interest financing, grants, or tax credits; and assist identifying any new suppliers which may be critical to the EV operations.
Additionally, the RGP investigates the need for workforce training, whether it is current employees or new hires. The RGP has access to many tools and programs from JobsOhio, the State of Ohio, and our local counties to provide the training employees need to be successful. Also in the workforce space, depending the company’s needs, the RGP would coordinate with our education institutions at the high school level which may involve Career Technical Education, the community college level, and the university level.
