“Certainly with the abatement they have in hand, we’re going to see some benefit from that over the next 15 years. But once those abatements start to expire, the benefit taxpayers will see, the district will see, will be enormous, taking a heavy burden off of our taxpayers.”
– Joel Mengerink, Superintendent, Elida Local Schools

Data centers can provide new-found financial windfalls for municipalities. And communities are able to negotiate deals in the best interest of their municipalities and their constituents. For example, an agreement reached for an expected data center in Van Wert is expected to generate the community $200 million over the next 20 years.
The facilities are usually valued 4-times higher than traditional industrial/ manufacturing operations. One Individual data center campus can generate $20-30 million or more in annual property taxes. In Loudoun County, Virginia, that community alone collected $900 million from data centers in 2025, according to Civic IQ. In addition, PILOT payment agreements can be arranged to provide consistent revenue to communities and schools, greater than traditional property tax payments.
Find out the generational opportunities data centers can bring your community.
