In collaboration with businesses and economic development groups across Northwest Ohio, the Regional Growth Partnership reported capital investment by companies of nearly $1.7 billion in the third quarter, leading to the creation of 551 new jobs.

The major project was Amazon’s announcement to build a new 600,000 square-foot warehouse in Wood County. The e-commerce giant will invest over $100 million for the new facility and hire 457 people.

“We recognize and thank the businesses which drive the economic growth for Northwest Ohio,” said Dean Monske, president and CEO of the RGP. “Our job, along with our regional and state partners, is to create an environment conducive for business growth. And we’re seeing the success of those efforts evidenced by the continued investments coming from companies.”

Another significant project in Q3 was Nelson Manufacturing’s $18 million expansion at its Putnam County location. The company currently employs 90 people and expects to hire an additional 18 for this project. Nelson Manufacturing, located in Ottawa, is a recognized leader in producing specialized trailers and crane attachments for aerospace equipment. The company will undertake the multi-million investment for a new facility designed to enhance productivity, capabilities and efficiencies.

President Tony Niese said the company plans to hire for a variety of positions including engineering, project management and assembly. The new 73,000 square-foot facility will allow for grit blasting, painting and assembly.

“We do design, engineering, testing and complete assembly of the trailer before anything ships,” Niese said.
