A leading manufacturer of English muffins and soft sandwich buns has announced plans to expand its Northwest Ohio operations.

New Horizons Baking Company will invest more than $13 million to add a second muffin line at its Toledo facility. The company, which attributed enhanced customer demand for the decision to expand, expects to add at least 45 new jobs.

Earlier today, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a Job Creation Tax Credit for the company.

Headquartered in Norwalk, Ohio, New Horizons employs more than 550 people while operating four facilities between Ohio and Indiana.

This Toledo project includes bringing in machinery and equipment for the new line as well as the addition of 20,000 square feet for cold storage.

Company officials said it was a competitive project, one the Toledo plant ultimately secured because of its quality workforce.

“We are very excited about the economic growth opportunity of a new production line in our Toledo facility. However, we know that we cannot succeed without a strong and committed workforce. The city of Toledo and its economic development partners have been exceptional in helping us meet that goal.”

– Trina Bediako, CEO of New Horizons Baking

This marks the second significant expansion project within the last seven years at the Toledo location. Bediako said that demonstrates the company’s faith in the Toledo facility where it continues to invest.

New Horizons Baking Company also recognized the strong collaboration among the economic development groups in moving the project forward, including the Regional Growth Partnership and JobsOhio.

“New Horizons Baking is an Ohio headquartered company that continues to thrive with the exceptional talent they find here. With this investment in Toledo, New Horizons will add a second muffin line and additional cold storage, bringing 45 new jobs to one of its two production facilities in Ohio.”

J.P. Nauseef, JobsOhio president and CEO

Production on the new line is expected to begin in February 2024.
