New Equipment Provides Northwest Ohio Engineering Firm Powerful Return

TTL Associates, an engineering, environmental and testing company, has purchased new drilling equipment to support the expansion of its geotechnical and environmental drilling business.

The Toledo-based company acquired a state-of-the-art drill rig for $390,000, which the company described as more powerful and mobile. The purchase will support the creation of nine positions.

“The new drill rig increases our capabilities due to its substantial power with a compact footprint,” said Tom Uhler, CEO, TTL Associates. “The use of this rig will ensure that the soil and rock samples we extract from beneath the ground surface are representative of the underground strata we encounter.”

Describing the equipment as being able to traverse steep, wet and vegetated topography, Uhler said the drill rig has been designed from the ground up to provide the ideal combination of all-terrain mobility and drilling performance. It allows TTL to work on development sites that are inaccessible to any of the company’s existing drill rigs. TTL Associates is only the third company in the U.S. to obtain this equipment, he added.

The equipment purchase was supported through a newly created JobsOhio Inclusion Grant, which provides financial support for eligible projects in designated distressed communities and/or for businesses owned by underrepresented populations across the state.

“Along with the RGP, we welcome to opportunity to partner with TTL Associates as it invests in a new state-of-the-art drill rig to support its growth,” said J.P. Nauseef, JobsOhio president and CEO. “TTL Associate’s new investment brings the latest technology and nine new jobs to this expanding environmental services company in Toledo.

According to Uhler, the increased power of the new equipment allows for deeper drilling with larger augers and provides the added capability to core rock. In addition, it delivers the added ability to perform due diligence services faster and reach areas previously inaccessible. Both new and expanding businesses will benefit, Uhler said.

Established in 1927 as Toledo Testing Laboratory, TTL Associates, Inc. has grown to be a full-service environmental, geotechnical engineering, industrial hygiene, materials testing and drilling firm. TTL serves local, regional, and federal clients across the country from its headquarters in Toledo, Ohio, and branch offices located in Cleveland, Denver, Washington, D.C., and Plymouth, Michigan.
