At its recent annual meeting, the Regional Growth Partnership reported on Northwest Ohio’s continued success in attracting new companies, jobs and investment across our region.

The RGP, in collaboration with its partners in the 17-county region, successfully executed 131 projects with new and existing businesses, according to President and CEO Dean Monske.

Economic development practitioners and partners across Ohio have taken an aggressive and proactive mindset in their approach to maintaining and sustaining globally competitive counties and communities, according to Monske, who made his comments before nearly 500 people who attended the RGP’s annual meeting at The Pinnacle in Maumee’s Arrowhead Park.

The meeting served as an opportunity for the RGP to share results from 2017 and also further define its role in regional economic development. Highlights from last year for all of Northwest Ohio featured the creation of nearly 4,000 new jobs across the 17-county region and $4 billion in capital investment.

Several significant projects in 2017:

  • Campbell Soup Company – 220 new jobs/$50 million capital investment
  • Cliffs Natural Resources – 130 new jobs/$668 million capital investment
  • deSter – 70 new jobs/$5 million capital investment

In addition to those results, the RGP has developed a healthy pipeline of opportunity offering the potential of close to 20,000 new jobs and $12.4 billion of capital investment.

Also at the meeting, Monske discussed proactive measures being taken both at JobsOhio and in communities throughout Northwest Ohio to better compete in the global economy, focusing on the certification of sites and construction of spec buildings. Northwest Ohio already has more than a dozen sites with spec buildings either recently completed or under design. In addition, five Northwest Ohio sites were formally site certified for the food processing industry. Similarly, JobsOhio’s SiteOhio authenticated sites program guarantees a site is ready for immediate development on day one. Three sites in Northwest Ohio have received the SiteOhio seal as authenticated sites.

Other highlights from 2017 made at the RGP’s annual meeting included:

  • International development efforts generated close to 500 new jobs and $1 billion of investment
  • Implementation of an aggressive lead-generation marketing program
  • Editorial marketing program led to an outstanding story in the Chicago Tribune about downtown Toledo’s revitalization
