JobsOhio Program Assists Underrepresented Communities and Businesses in Northwest Ohio

Three companies in Northwest Ohio recently announced expansions through the assistance of a new JobsOhio incentive program that will support these manufacturing development projects. The JobsOhio Inclusion Grant provided grant funding to the three projects in the amount of $100,000. Those dollars supported the creation of 7 new jobs and the retention of 15 jobs.

The companies, spread across the Toledo MSA, all received assistance from JobsOhio Inclusion Grants, a new program that provides support for eligible projects in designated distressed communities and/or for businesses owned by underrepresented populations across the state.

“To realize a full recovery, we must work to ensure underrepresented communities and population groups in Ohio have opportunities to expand and grow,” said J.P. Nauseef. “These JobsOhio Inclusion Grants provide assistance to three companies in different parts of Northwest Ohio that will help them scale operations for future success.”

The Northwest Ohio Businesses receiving JobsOhio Inclusion Grants are:

Hyggelight – The Growing Candle Company (Toledo)

Hyggelight manufactures a zero-waste product that starts as a luxurious candle and transforms into a pot of wildflowers, creating a healthy atmosphere for the customer and the planet. The family-owned business solved the problem of what to do with an empty candle container, creating an eco-friendly product and leading the reusable “growing candle” industry.

Pristine Marine, LLC (Port Clinton)

Pristine Marine, LLC is engaged in the manufacturing and assembling of custom high-quality canvas coverings, seating coverings and products for boats and other businesses. Customers include Jet Express, hospitals, medical supply companies and marine markets. The investment will allow the company to expand into new markets and gain new customers by expanding its current building space and purchasing additional machinery and equipment.

Aeropact Manufacturing – Martin Machine (Bowling Green)

Martin Machine specializes in the manufacturing of custom bronze machined parts and bronze bearings for aerospace, automotive, agriculture, construction and oil & gas industries for nearly 50 years. The grant will allow the company to scale up their operation and compete within their markets, specifically the precision necessary for their aerospace customers.

Grant decisions for the program are based on a number of project factors, including but not limited to company location, company ownership, jobs created and/or retained, and project fixed asset investment. Support is generally intended for small to medium-sized companies with eligible projects.
