A surge in business development activity across Northwest Ohio resulted in a sizeable spike for new jobs and investment during the third quarter.
Businesses in the 17-county region of Northwest Ohio created 1,184 new jobs over the three-month period, while investing well over $1 billion. These third-quarter metrics for Northwest Ohio were recently released by the Regional Growth Partnership, the region’s lead economic development organization.
“Businesses are responding to our message that they will grow and find success in Northwest Ohio,” said Dean Monske, RGP’s president and CEO. “JobsOhio and our local economic development partners take great pride in streamlining and efficiently expediting the site selection process for prospective businesses.”
Already this year, companies across the region have created more than 1,800 jobs. “For the RGP and our regional partners, we’re coming off three straight record years in terms of new jobs and capital investment in Northwest Ohio,” Monske said. “That momentum has continued through 2017.”
A significant portion of those third-quarter numbers came from the advanced manufacturing industry, which produced 500 new jobs with capital investment exceeding $634 million. Major wins within the industry included Cliffs Natural Resources ($700 million capital investment/130 new jobs) and Apio ($28 million investment/150 new jobs).
