Major Successes Presented at RGP Annual Meeting

Despite the many challenges, last year saw the Regional Growth Partnership remain committed to executing its mission of promoting business expansion and the attraction of new investment and high-quality jobs to Northwest Ohio, all while working collaboratively with economic development partners at the local and state levels.

That was the lead message presented by RGP President & CEO Dean Monske at the organization’s annual meeting in March where he recognized the effects of COVID, but more so highlighted the positive developments in 2020.

“We are proud of the resiliency demonstrated by businesses across this region, as well as all the economic development groups, in staying focused to grow Northwest Ohio’s economy,” Monske said. “That commitment demonstrates the passion and belief that this region is a great place to do business.”

Though the annual meeting was a virtual event, the RGP still managed to present substantial, valuable content to an online audience of more than 370 people.

Monske opened by presenting the key metrics from 2020 of 4,837 new jobs created across the 17-county region, with capital investment of $1.4 billion. The manufacturing industry led the way with more than 2,000 new jobs, while the region’s energy sector generated nearly $500 million in capital investment.

A pre-packaged video followed which highlighted 10 top projects across Northwest Ohio – a video which included a narrated overview of each project, aerial drone and company photos. As part of that, the presentation also featured two case study corporate testimonial videos. POET Biorefining in Putnam County was featured, recognizing how the company rapidly modified its ethanol production to include hand sanitizer.

The other testimonial was a success story featuring the development of Ohio Logistics Park in North Baltimore. This partnership between CSX Intermodal and NorthPoint Development would ultimately land the first tenant, UPS, in late 2020. Industry leaders describe the new logistics park as a ‘game-changer’ for Northwest Ohio.

“Anybody who is in the national or global transportation business for their products is looking at Northwest Ohio now as a critical place under consideration for their operations.”
