Businesses across Northwest Ohio added more than 1,900 jobs in the third quarter of 2018, showing a marked increase over the past reporting period. First Solar’s $900 million announcement for a new manufacturing facility in Wood County highlighted a robust quarter of activity.

The Regional Growth Partnership, in collaboration with JobsOhio and economic development partners across the 17-county region, announced 18 new projects creating those expected job totals, accompanied by more than $1.1 billion of planned capital investment.

RGP President & CEO Dean Monske thanked those investing companies while acknowledging the region’s efforts to continue focusing on the immediate needs of businesses. “We understand companies have many choices where to invest,” Monske said. “Our priority in Northwest Ohio is to ensure we are providing the most conducive business climate for companies to start and succeed today.”

Overall, the regional manufacturing industry added more than 1,000 jobs in the third quarter, followed by the automotive industry which added nearly 800 new jobs. Relevant project announcements for those respective industries included Reifel Industries in Williams County (20 jobs/$6.9 million investment) and Tower Automotive in Sandusky County (16 jobs/$31.2 million investment). For the year, the Northwest Ohio economic development community has reported 3,547 new jobs with more than $1.3 billion of investment.
