First Solar Investing $400 Million, Creating 500 Jobs in Northwest Ohio

The nation’s largest manufacturer of photovoltaic modules has announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Northwest Ohio. First Solar will construct a new 1 million square-foot solar plant a short distance from its existing facility in Perrysburg, just outside Toledo.

The $400 million expansion project will add 500 new jobs to an already existing labor force of 750. Construction of the 1.2 gigawatt factory will begin soon with full production expected in 2018.

And flourish it has. The regional manufacturing industry has seen a 400% jump in investment in just the past year. Nearly 5,000 new manufacturing jobs have been added since 2015, with investment well in excess of $2 billion.
