Significant investments in Northwest Ohio’s energy and logistics industries elevated the region’s economic performance during the second quarter of 2019. Preliminary numbers show businesses across Northwest Ohio added 575 new jobs with investments exceeding $492 million.
Companies within the region’s logistics and distribution market created 90 jobs in the second quarter, investing $52 million into their operations. Estes Express Lines, a leading freight transportation services company in Toledo, invested $6 million into their regional terminal. For the energy industry, corporate investment reached $241 million. The bulk of that came from PCS Nitrogen, a world-leading fertilizer and agricultural company, which invested nearly $239 million for new technology and infrastructure at its Lima facility.
